Ingredients

For the dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon dried Italian herbs (optional)
  • Melted butter for brushing

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  • Add in flour, salt, olive oil, Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, and Italian herbs if using. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, or until it's smooth and elastic to the touch.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise for 10-15 minutes, until it visibly expands.
  • Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Baking

  • When the dough has risen, divide it into small balls—about 12 pieces—and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Brush the tops with melted butter.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until they turn golden brown and are baked through.
  • Serve warm for the best flavor!

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. To freeze, place cooled rolls in a freezer-safe bag and they'll last up to three months.
