Ingredients

For the Patties

  • 2 lbs Ground beef (80/20 blend) For best flavor.
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs (Plain or seasoned) To bind the ingredients.
  • 1 Egg (Beaten) Acts as a binding agent.
  • 1 Onion (Finely diced) Adds sweetness.
  • 2 tsp Salt Enhances flavors.
  • 1 tsp Black pepper For a little kick.

For the Gravy

  • 3 tbsp Butter (Salted or unsalted) For sautéing onions.
  • 3 tbsp All-purpose flour To thicken the gravy.
  • 2 cups Beef broth (Low sodium preferred) Adds savory depth.
  • 1 cup Heavy cream Gives gravy creaminess.
  • 1 Onion (Sliced) Caramelizes in the gravy.
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder Elevates flavor profile.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, gently mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, finely diced onion, salt, and pepper until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Form the mixture into 6–8 oval-shaped patties and let them rest.

Cooking

  • In an oven-safe skillet, brown the patties for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, sauté sliced onions in butter until golden. Add flour and stir for 2 minutes. Slowly whisk in the beef broth and cream.
  • Carefully nestle the browned patties into the creamy gravy, cover, and bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake for another 15 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Letting the patties rest ensures they stay juicy during cooking. You can adjust the seasoning to taste and use an oven-safe skillet to make cleanup easier.
