  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cups mushrooms, sliced

Binding and Flavoring

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup beef broth Low-sodium options can be used for a healthier dish.
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (optional) Experiment with different types like cheddar or mozzarella.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Add chopped onion and mushrooms to the skillet, cooking until softened.
  • In a bowl, combine cooked meat mixture with breadcrumbs, beef broth, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  • Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and press it down evenly.
  • If using, sprinkle cheese on top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until heated through and slightly golden on top.

Notes

Amish Hamburger Steak Bake can be served alone or with sides like mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, or a green salad. For storage, keep in the fridge for 3-4 days or freeze for 2-3 months. Thaw in the fridge before reheating.
