Ingredients
  

For the Biscuit Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Use for the biscuit base.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder For leavening the biscuits.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar Sweetens the biscuits.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed Use cold butter for flaky biscuits.
  • 1/2 cup milk Can substitute with sour cream for richness.

For the Apple Filling

  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples Fresh apples recommended, canned pie filling can be used as a substitute.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Enhances the flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg For added warmth.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice To prevent the apples from browning.

For Serving

  • Whipped cream or ice cream Optional, for serving.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar.
  • Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers, until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in the milk until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently, just enough to bring the dough together. Roll it out to about 1/2 inch thickness, then cut into rounds using a biscuit cutter.

Apple Filling

  • In another bowl, toss the diced apples with the cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, and lemon juice until they are well coated.

Assembly and Baking

  • Place half of the biscuit rounds on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Top each with a generous spoonful of the apple mixture, then place another biscuit round on top to form a sandwich.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and fragrant.
  • Let cool slightly before serving, and enjoy them warm with a side of whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.

Notes

Make sure to use cold butter for a flaky texture. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
