Ingredients

  • 1 piece egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour Can substitute half with whole wheat flour for a healthier option.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon For an extra kick, mix with cayenne pepper.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened Bring to room temperature for easier mixing.
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened Bring to room temperature for easier mixing.
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, combine the mashed bananas, melted butter, sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract. Stir until well blended.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, ground cinnamon, and salt until combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture. Stir gently until just combined; avoid over mixing.
  • On a lightly floured surface, spread the dough into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Sprinkle the surface with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar evenly.
  • Starting at one edge, roll the dough tightly into a log shape. Cut the log into 1 to 1.5-inch thick rolls.
  • Place the rolls in the greased baking dish, cover with a kitchen towel, and let them rise for 30 minutes.

Baking

  • Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.

Frosting

  • While the rolls bake, beat the softened cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract together until smooth.
  • Spread the cream cheese frosting generously over the warm rolls before serving.

Notes

Best served warm. Pairs well with coffee or tea. Rolls can be made ahead and thawed or frozen.
