Ingredients

Dumpling Filling

  • 1 medium head cabbage for wrapping
  • 1 cup cooked, shredded chicken or tofu
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chopped vegetables (like carrots, bell peppers, or mushrooms) use your favorite vegetables
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Wrapping

  • Dumpling wrappers or large cabbage leaves for wrapping

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large skillet, heat sesame oil over medium heat. Add onions and garlic, sauté until translucent.
  • Stir in the cooked chicken or tofu and chopped vegetables. Cook for another 5 minutes until vegetables are tender.
  • Add soy sauce, salt, and pepper, mixing well.

Wrapping

  • If using dumpling wrappers, place a spoonful of filling in each wrapper, fold and seal. If using cabbage leaves, place filling on the leaf, fold the edges, and roll tightly.

Cooking

  • Steam the dumplings for about 15-20 minutes or until the wrappers are tender.

Serving

  • Serve cabbage dumplings hot with a side of soy sauce, hoisin sauce, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Chop vegetables finely for a well-mixed filling. Wet the edges of wrappers to help them seal better. Consider using a mix of different vegetables for added flavor and color. For a crunchier texture, pan-fry steamed dumplings for a minute or two in a little oil after steaming. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days, or freeze for up to three months.
