Ingredients
  

For the Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 0.5 cups vegetable oil
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups diced apples Tart apples like Granny Smith are preferred.

For the Caramel Icing

  • 1 cup caramel sauce Store-bought caramel sauce is acceptable.
  • 0.5 cups powdered sugar Increase for a thicker icing.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a large baking sheet.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  • In another bowl, combine applesauce, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking sheet and spread it evenly.

Baking

  • Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Caramel Icing

  • While the cake is baking, mix caramel sauce and powdered sugar in a bowl until smooth.
  • Once the cake is cooled, drizzle the caramel icing over the top.

Serving

  • Allow it to set, slice, and serve.

Notes

Can be served warm or at room temperature. Pair with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra sweetness. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days or freeze for longer storage.
