Ingredients

For the Sloppy Joe Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey, chicken, or plant-based alternatives.
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 cup ketchup BBQ sauce can be used as a variation.
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • to taste Salt and pepper

For Assembly

  • 4 slices garlic bread Can use store-bought or homemade.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella) Feel free to adjust the cheese type based on preference.

Instructions

Cook the Beef and Vegetables

  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef together with the chopped onion and green bell pepper. Stir occasionally for about 7-10 minutes, or until the beef is fully cooked and the veggies are tender. Make sure to drain any excess fat.

Add Flavor

  • Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Let this mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, until it thickens slightly and all the flavors meld beautifully.

Prepare the Oven

  • Preheat your oven according to the garlic bread package instructions while you let the Sloppy Joe mixture do its thing.

Assemble the Sandwiches

  • Spoon the hearty Sloppy Joe mixture generously onto the slices of garlic bread, allowing the mixture to spill over a bit for extra appeal.

Cheese It Up

  • Top each slice of loaded garlic bread with a generous handful of shredded cheese. The more, the merrier!

Bake to Perfection

  • Place the prepared slices on a baking sheet and put them in the oven. Bake for about 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serve Hot

  • Once done, remove from the oven, let them cool for a moment, and serve these cheesy delights hot.

Notes

Serve with a refreshing side salad or crispy potato chips. Keep leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. To prevent sogginess, ensure garlic bread is toasted before adding the mixture.
