  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (optional for garnish)

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes.
  • Sprinkle half of the cheese over the potatoes.
  • In a bowl, mix the heavy cream, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Pour half of this mixture over the potatoes and cheese.
  • Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cheese, and cream mixture.
  • Dot the top with butter.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.
  • Let it cool slightly before serving, and garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add some grated Parmesan cheese on top before baking. Make sure to slice the potatoes evenly to ensure they cook uniformly. If you want a thicker sauce, use less milk and cream or add a bit of flour to the cream mixture. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
