Ingredients
  

For the Chicken

  • 4 pieces boneless chicken breasts Evenly sized for consistent cooking.
  • 8 slices ham Use good quality ham.
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese Or Gruyère for a richer taste.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour For dredging.
  • 2 large eggs Beaten for binding.
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs For coating.
  • 2 tablespoons butter For frying.
  • 2 tablespoons oil For frying.

Preparation

  • Butterfly the chicken breasts by slicing them horizontally without cutting all the way through, then open them like a book.
  • Pound the chicken to an even thickness.
  • Layer ham followed by Swiss cheese on each chicken breast.
  • Roll the chicken tightly and secure with toothpicks or kitchen twine.
  • Dredge the rolls in flour, dip in beaten egg, and coat with breadcrumbs.

Cooking

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Heat oil and butter in a pan over medium heat.
  • Cook chicken rolls for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  • Transfer rolls to the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until cooked through.

Notes

For better melting, use Swiss cheese or Gruyère and consider freezing the cheese slightly before use. Optionally, brine chicken for added moisture.
