  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened Room temperature for best results.
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs Room temperature.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Frosting

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened Room temperature.
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened Room temperature.
  • cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk Add until desired consistency.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy for about 3-4 minutes. Add eggs and vanilla, mixing until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, mixing until just combined.
  • Spread half of the batter into the greased baking pan.
  • In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and ground cinnamon with melted butter, then spoon this mixture over the batter layer.
  • Spread the remaining batter over the cinnamon-sugar mixture and swirl lightly with a knife.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool completely on a wire rack.

Frosting

  • In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and remaining butter until smooth. Gradually mix in powdered sugar and vanilla, adding milk tablespoon by tablespoon until smooth.
  • Frost the cooled bars evenly with the cream cheese frosting, then cut into squares to serve.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding nuts to the batter or experimenting with variations such as vegan or gluten-free options.
