  • 3 cloves garlic, minced For flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced Adds warmth and spice.

  • Salt and pepper to taste For seasoning.

Preparation

  • Prepare the chow mein noodles according to package instructions. When done, drain them well and set aside.
  • In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  • Add the minced garlic and ginger. Sauté for about 30 seconds, stirring continuously, until they’re fragrant but not browned.
  • Toss in the mixed vegetables. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until they are crisp-tender and vibrant in color.
  • Add the cooked noodles to the skillet along with the soy sauce and sesame oil. Toss everything together, stirring well to combine and ensuring the noodles are heated through—about another 2-3 minutes.
  • Adjust the flavors by seasoning with salt and pepper to your liking.
  • Use finely chopped green onions to garnish the dish immediately before serving. Enjoy your homemade chow mein!

Notes

Chow mein can be prepped a few hours in advance. Just prepare all your vegetables and noodles ahead of time, but combine them just before mealtime to maintain texture. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
