  • 4 slices thick bread Brioche or challah work well.
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk Can substitute with almond milk or oat milk.
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Granulated sugar for caramelizing Use for topping.

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, cream, milk, sugar, vanilla, and salt.
  • Dip each slice of bread into the mixture, allowing it to soak for a few minutes.

Cooking

  • Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt some butter.
  • Cook the soaked bread slices until golden brown on both sides.
  • Sprinkle granulated sugar on top of the cooked French toast and use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until it forms a crispy top.

Serving

  • Serve warm with syrup or fresh fruit.

Notes

Best served warm; drizzle with syrup or add fresh fruit. To store leftovers, let cool, then refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat gently, and caramelize the top before serving again.
