Main Ingredients

  • 1 loaf brioche or challah bread Use stale bread for best results.
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt
  • as needed Butter for greasing

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
  • Cut the bread into thick slices and arrange them in the baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, cream, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the bread, ensuring it's all coated. Let it soak for about 30 minutes.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden and the custard is set.
  • Once baked, sprinkle additional sugar on top and caramelize using a kitchen torch or under a broiler until golden.
  • Serve warm and enjoy your decadent French toast!

Notes

Serve warm, topped with fresh berries, whipped cream, or maple syrup. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for about 10-15 minutes.
