  • 400 grams Firm tofu
  • 4 tablespoons Honey (or maple syrup for vegan option) Use maple syrup to make the dish vegan.
  • 4 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce Use gluten-free soy sauce for a gluten-free option.
  • 1/2 cup Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame oil
  • 2 Green onions, chopped For garnish.
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame seeds For garnish.
  • 1 cup Vegetable oil For frying.

Preparation

  • Drain the firm tofu and press it to remove excess moisture for 15-20 minutes.
  • Cut the pressed tofu into uniform bite-sized cubes.
  • In a small bowl, mix honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, and sesame oil to create the honey garlic sauce.
  • Coat each tofu cube evenly in cornstarch.

Cooking

  • Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and fry the tofu cubes until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  • Remove the fried tofu and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  • Return the skillet to medium heat, pour in the honey garlic sauce, and let it simmer for about a minute.
  • Add the crispy tofu to the sauce and gently toss to coat evenly.

Notes

Press the tofu well to remove moisture for a crispier texture. Adjust sweetness of sauce and add red pepper flakes or sriracha for a spicy kick.
