Ingredients
  

Potato Layer

  • 4 large large potatoes, thinly sliced Use Yukon Gold or Russet for best flavor.
  • 2 cups heavy cream Can swap some with low-fat milk for a lighter option.
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Other cheeses like mozzarella or gouda can be used for variation.

Flavor Additions

  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Butter for greasing the baking dish

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Grease a baking dish with butter.
  • Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the dish.
  • In a bowl, mix the cream, garlic, diced onion, salt, and pepper. Pour half of this mixture over the potatoes.
  • Sprinkle half of the cheese over the top.
  • Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.

Baking

  • Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. It can be frozen for up to 2 months. For variations, add cooked bacon or ham, or incorporate herbs like thyme or rosemary for added flavor.
