Instructions

Cooking Steps

  • In a large skillet, add a drizzle of olive oil and heat over medium-high.
  • Add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté for about 3-5 minutes until tender.
  • If using, toss in the mushrooms and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
  • Push the veggies to the side of the skillet and add the ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks until no longer pink (about 5-7 minutes).
  • Stir in garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix for about 2 minutes.
  • Reduce heat to low, place a slice of cheese over the mixture, cover and let it melt for about 2-3 minutes.
  • While cheese melts, slice hoagie rolls lengthwise and toast if desired.
  • Spoon the beef and veggie mixture into each roll.
  • Optionally, toast rolls before serving.

Notes

Lean ground beef adds flavor; feel free to customize with your favorite veggies or cheeses. Rolling in the oven for a slight crisp can enhance flavor.
