  • 2 pieces ripe avocados Choose avocados that give slightly when pressed but aren't overly soft.
  • 1 piece lime Fresh lime juice is best, but lemon juice works as an alternative.
  • 1 small onion Finely chopped.
  • 1 small tomato Finely chopped.
  • 1 clove garlic Finely chopped.
  • to taste salt
  • to taste fresh cilantro (optional)

Preparation

  • Cut the avocados in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a bowl.
  • Mash the avocados with a fork until creamy, leaving some chunks for texture if you prefer.
  • Squeeze the lime juice over the mashed avocado to prevent browning and infuse it with fresh flavor.
  • Finely chop the onion, tomato, and garlic, then add them to the bowl with the avocado.
  • Season with salt and mix everything until combined, tasting as you go.
  • If desired, stir in cilantro for additional flavor.

Notes

Guacamole is best served fresh, at room temperature. Store in an airtight container covered with plastic wrap directly on the surface to limit browning. Guacamole can be frozen but may change texture.
