Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar or coconut sugar
  • 1/4 cup almond milk Any milk of choice can be used.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons melted coconut oil

Coating

  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon sugar For coating.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  • In another bowl, mix the applesauce, brown sugar, almond milk, vanilla extract, and melted coconut oil until well combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until just combined.
  • Shape the dough into small bite-sized pieces and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Baking

  • Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and, while still warm, roll the churro bites in cinnamon sugar.

Serving

  • Serve warm and enjoy plain or with dipping sauces like chocolate or caramel.

Notes

Store in an airtight container. They can be kept at room temperature for up to two days, refrigerated for a week, or frozen for a month. Reheat in the oven for a few minutes before serving.
