  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Use quality cocoa for a richer flavor
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Reduce if using salted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • powdered sugar Optional for dusting

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a heart-shaped baking pan.
  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat and then remove from heat.
  • Stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Add the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder; mix until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.

Baking

  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Let the brownies cool in the pan before removing and dusting with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Refrigerate for up to a week or freeze for up to 3 months. Remember not to overmix the batter for fudgy brownies.
