Ingredients
  

Macaron Base

  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 large egg whites Make sure they are at room temperature.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar Add gradually to egg whites.
  • Food coloring (optional) Use to add color to macarons.

Filling

  • Buttercream or filling of choice For sandwiching macarons.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, sift together almond flour and powdered sugar until well mixed.
  • In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites until frothy, then gradually add granulated sugar until stiff peaks form.
  • If using food coloring, add it to the egg whites now.
  • Gently fold in the almond flour mixture, being careful not to deflate the egg whites.

Baking

  • Transfer the macaron batter to a piping bag fitted with a round tip. Pipe heart shapes on the prepared baking sheets.
  • Let the piped macarons rest for 30-60 minutes until they form a skin.
  • Bake the macarons for 15-20 minutes, or until they easily lift off the parchment.
  • Allow to cool completely before filling with buttercream or your choice of filling.

Notes

Store macarons in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days; freeze for longer storage with parchment in between.
