Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey or chicken.
  • 4 medium potatoes, sliced
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup Can substitute with cream of chicken soup.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Cheddar or mozzarella is preferred.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • Optional: additional vegetables (like carrots or green beans) Feel free to customize with your favorite vegetables.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and onion over medium heat until the beef is browned; drain excess fat.

Layering

  • In a greased casserole dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, then half of the cooked beef mixture.
  • Spread half of the cream of mushroom soup over the beef layer.
  • Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients, finishing with a layer of cheese on top.

Baking

  • Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake for 60 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Best served warm. Pairs well with a simple side salad or crusty bread. Garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or chives for added flavor.
