Ingredients
  

Pasta and Filling

  • 9 pieces lasagna noodles Cook according to package instructions
  • 1 pound ground beef Cook until browned
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded Divided into two portions
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • optional Fresh basil for garnish Enhances flavor and presentation

Sauce

  • 2 cups marinara sauce Divided into two portions

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • In a large bowl, combine cooked beef, ricotta cheese, 1 cup of mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

Assembly and Cooking

  • Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.
  • To assemble, place a noodle on a flat surface, spread a layer of the cheese mixture on the noodle, then roll it up tightly.
  • Place the rolled lasagna seam-side down in the baking dish. Repeat with remaining noodles and filling.
  • Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the roll-ups and sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella cheese.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly.

Serving

  • Garnish with fresh basil if desired and serve warm, straight from the oven.

Notes

Make sure not to overcook the noodles; al dente is the best texture for rolling. Feel free to add vegetables to the cheese mixture, like spinach or mushrooms, for extra nutrition. Wait a few minutes before serving to allow the cheese to set slightly, making it easier to slice.
