  • 2 large ripe tomatoes, sliced Use high-quality, ripe tomatoes for the best flavor.
  • 1 ripe avocado, sliced Brush cut avocado with lemon or lime juice to prevent browning.
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced Allow mozzarella to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before preparing.
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves Experiment with different basil varieties for a unique flavor.

Dressing

  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Preparation

  • Begin by slicing the tomatoes, avocado, and mozzarella into uniform slices, about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Arrange the slices on a large serving platter.

Layering

  • Alternate layers of tomato, avocado, and mozzarella, starting with a tomato slice.
  • Repeat the layers until the platter is filled.

Adding Basil

  • Tuck whole basil leaves between the layers and sprinkle torn basil leaves on top.

Dressing the Salad

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  • Pour the dressing evenly over the salad just before serving.

Serving

  • Serve the salad immediately, enjoying it chilled or at room temperature.

Notes

This salad is best served fresh. For leftovers, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. Freezing is not recommended due to texture changes.
