  • 1 head cabbage, chopped Chop evenly for uniform cooking.
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey Substitute ground chicken or pork if preferred.
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Enhances flavor.
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes Can substitute with fire-roasted tomatoes for variation.
  • 1 cup beef broth Can substitute with chicken or vegetable broth.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika Can omit for a milder flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • as needed Olive oil For cooking.

Preparation

  • In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes until shimmering.
  • Add the diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the onion is translucent and fragrant.
  • Incorporate the ground beef or turkey into the pan. Cook for 7-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and fully cooked.
  • Stir in the chopped cabbage, cooking for an additional 5-6 minutes until it wilts and becomes tender.
  • Add in the diced tomatoes, beef broth, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  • Let everything simmer for 15-20 minutes, allowing the dish to thicken slightly and the flavors to meld.
  • Serve hot, optionally with rice on the side.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days. For freezing, use a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.
