  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk should be warm, but not hot
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup purple, green, and gold colored sugar for decoration for festive decoration

Filling

Dough Preparation

  • In a bowl, activate the yeast in warm milk with a little sugar.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and cinnamon.
  • Add the melted butter, eggs, and the activated yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  • Let the dough rise in a greased bowl, covered, for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Shaping and Baking

  • Roll out the dough into a rectangle, add the filling, and shape it into a ring.
  • Place on a baking sheet and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden.
  • After cooling, decorate with the colored sugar.

Notes

Keep the King Cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. If you need to store it longer, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for up to a week. You can also freeze it for up to a month; just wrap it well to avoid freezer burn. Thaw in the fridge before serving.
