Main Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded apples

Glaze Ingredients

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3-4 tablespoons milk for glaze
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • cinnamon sugar for sprinkling

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your waffle iron.
  • In a bowl, stir together the dry ingredients: flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cornstarch.
  • In another bowl, whisk the egg, milk, and oil together.
  • Gently stir in the shredded apples until everything is well combined.

Cooking

  • Spray the waffle iron with nonstick spray to prevent sticking.
  • Drop the batter by tablespoon onto the waffle iron, making sure to leave room for expansion.
  • Cook for about 3-5 minutes, depending on the temperature of your iron, until golden brown.
  • Carefully place the waffle donuts on a wire rack to cool.

Glazing

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the glaze ingredients: powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract.
  • Dip each waffle donut in the glaze, flip it around, and let the excess drip off.
  • If desired, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar before letting them set.

Notes

These donuts are best served warm and fresh. They can be enjoyed plain or with a scoop of ice cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to two days at room temperature or refrigerate for about a week.
