Equipment

  • Baking Dish
  • Mandoline Slicer (optional)

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 large Russet potatoes sliced into thin rounds
  • 4 tbsp butter melted
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese shredded, sharp preferred
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 6 slices bacon cooked and crumbled

Optional Add-ins

  • 1/4 cup green onions chopped, for garnish
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish.
  • Slice potatoes into thin rounds. A mandoline slicer can help achieve uniform slices.
  • Layer potatoes in the baking dish, followed by cheese, bacon, and a drizzle of heavy cream.
  • Repeat layering until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of cheese on top.
  • Bake uncovered for 40-50 minutes, until potatoes are tender and the top is golden and crispy.
  • Let cool slightly before serving. Garnish with green onions if desired.

Notes

For a spicier version, add diced jalapeños or crushed red pepper flakes. To make it vegetarian, omit the bacon and add sautéed mushrooms or caramelized onions.
