Ingredients

For the Meatballs

  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey You can use either ground beef or turkey.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Regular or panko breadcrumbs can be used.
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper

For Cooking

  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 cups water or broth Use whichever liquid suits your taste.
  • 8 oz pasta (spaghetti or penne)
  • for garnish Fresh basil Add for a fresh flavor and color on top.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined, then form into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

Cooking

  • In a large pot, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, approximately 5-7 minutes. Once browned, remove meatballs and set aside.
  • In the same pot, add pasta, marinara sauce, and water or broth. Stir to ensure pasta is submerged.
  • Return the browned meatballs to the pot, cover, and bring mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce heat and simmer for 12-15 minutes, or until pasta is cooked al dente.
  • Stir occasionally and check consistency; add more water or broth if it appears dry.
  • Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil.

Notes

For a healthier version, swap ground beef with ground turkey. To store leftovers, refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days or freeze for 2-3 months. Reheat by thawing overnight in the refrigerator and warming on the stovetop or microwave, adding water if needed.
