Ingredients

For the Filling

  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables Can substitute with fresh vegetables if preferred.
  • 1 cup beef broth Use low-sodium broth to control salt.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for cooking
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

For the Topping

  • 4 cups mashed potatoes Leftover or instant mashed potatoes can be used.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté the onions and garlic until translucent.

Cooking the Filling

  • Add the ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Stir in the frozen mixed vegetables, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Cook until heated through.

Assembling and Baking

  • Spread the beef mixture in a baking dish.
  • Top with an even layer of mashed potatoes.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the potatoes are lightly golden.

Notes

For extra flavor, season the beef mixture with herbs like thyme or rosemary. To achieve a golden top, sprinkle cheese on the mashed potatoes during the last few minutes of baking.
