  • 4 large potatoes Peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Cheddar or your choice
  • 2 tablespoons butter For sautéing
  • 1 small onion Finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Peel and thinly slice the potatoes.
  • In a skillet, melt butter and sauté the chopped onion until translucent.

Layering

  • In a greased baking dish, layer half of the potato slices, followed by the sautéed onion, half of the cheese, and season with salt and pepper.
  • Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cheese, and seasonings.

Baking

  • Pour the heavy cream over the layered potatoes.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is bubbly and golden brown.
  • Let it cool slightly before serving, garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding garlic to the sautéed onions. You can use any type of cheese you like; gouda or Monterey Jack work well too. Ensure the potato slices are evenly cut for consistent cooking. Layer in some cooked ham or bacon for a heartier dish.
