  • 4 medium Russet or Yukon gold potatoes Thinly sliced
  • 2 cups Cheddar cheese Shredded
  • 2 cups Heavy cream Can be replaced with half-and-half or milk for a healthier twist
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 1 teaspoon Thyme Fresh or dried
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne pepper Adjust according to heat preference
  • 1 teaspoon Salt To taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper To taste
  • 2 tablespoons Butter For sautéing garlic

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Thinly slice the potatoes and set them aside.
  • In a saucepan, melt butter and add garlic. Stir in heavy cream, thyme, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.

Assembly and Baking

  • In a greased baking dish, layer the potato slices and pour the creamy mixture over them.
  • Sprinkle cheddar cheese on top.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
  • Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve with roasted meats or a fresh side salad. For added flavor, sprinkle fresh herbs on top before serving. To store, refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.
