Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a baking dish with butter.
  • Layer half of the potato slices in the dish, sprinkling with salt, pepper, and onion if using.
  • Pour half of the cream over the potatoes and sprinkle with half of the cheese.
  • Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cream, and cheese.

Baking

  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.

Serving

  • Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Use a mandoline slicer for even potato slices. Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese for added flavor. Adding garlic powder can enhance the taste, giving a more savory touch. If you have leftovers, let them cool completely, then cover tightly or transfer to an airtight container. They can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave.
