  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Feel free to mix different types of cheese for variety.
  • 2 cups heavy cream Can substitute with half-and-half or milk.
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped Adds flavor to the dish.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Enhances the overall flavor.
  • 4 tablespoons butter For greasing and sautéing.
  • to taste salt and pepper Adjust according to preference.
  • for garnish Fresh parsley Optional for garnish.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Grease a baking dish with butter.
  • In a pan, melt butter and sauté the onions and garlic until soft.

Assembly

  • In a large bowl, combine the heavy cream, salt, and pepper.
  • Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish, then sprinkle with half of the cheddar cheese and half of the onion mixture.
  • Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.

Baking

  • Pour the cream mixture over the potatoes.
  • Cover with foil and bake for about 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
  • Let it cool slightly before serving and garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

Serve hot as a side dish for meats or as a main course with a salad. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
