Ingredients
  

For the Filling

  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef Use a mix for a richer flavor.
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 medium carrots, diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce Can be substituted with soy sauce or gluten-free alternative.
  • Fresh thyme and rosemary For seasoning.
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Mashed Potatoes

  • 2 lbs Russet potatoes, peeled and chopped Can substitute with Yukon Gold or red potatoes.
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup milk or cream For creamier consistency.

Preparation

  • Boil chopped potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15–20 minutes.
  • In a skillet, melt butter and sauté onions and carrots until soft. Add garlic and cook for an additional minute.

Cooking the Filling

  • Increase heat, add ground meat, and cook until browned, around 6–8 minutes.
  • Stir in Worcestershire sauce, seasonings, and frozen peas; cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Preparing the Mashed Potatoes

  • Drain potatoes and mash with butter and milk until creamy; season to taste.

Assembly and Baking

  • Layer the meat mixture in a baking dish, then top with mashed potatoes, creating peaks.
  • Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Serve hot with a side of salad or crusty bread. For a cozy meal, offer steamed vegetables. Cool leftovers completely and store them properly for up to 3 days in the fridge or freeze before baking.
