For the Smash Burger Patties

  • 1.5 pounds ground beef, 80/20 lean Use high-quality ground beef for better flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon grated yellow onion
  • 2 teaspoons hot sauce
  • 1.5 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon pepper

For Assembly

  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 pieces white hamburger buns Toasted if desired.
  • 2 tablespoons butter, room temperature For spreading on buns.
  • 2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 8 slices vine-ripe tomatoes

Preparation

  • Start by folding a piece of parchment paper in half to make a triangle and tuck the corners to create a pocket.
  • Roll the ground beef into balls and place them on a heated griddle with space between each patty.

Cooking

  • Place a piece of parchment paper over each ball of beef and smash them thin with a flat spatula.
  • Press down hard to create a crispy caramelized crust.

Assembly

  • Build your burger by placing cheese on a toasted bottom bun, then add the smash patty, lettuce, tomato, and any additional toppings.

Serving

  • Serve hot with classic sides like fries or onion rings and let everyone customize their burgers.

Notes
