  • 1/4 cup corn syrup Helps with the soft, chewy texture.
  • 1/2 tsp peppermint extract Use a good quality extract for best flavor.
  • to taste food coloring (optional) Use red and green for classic holiday colors.
  • for rolling granulated sugar Adds a lovely crunch to the outside.

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the powdered sugar, milk, corn syrup, and peppermint extract until smooth and slightly sticky.
  • Divide the mixture and fold in food coloring if desired, kneading until mixed.
  • Roll small chunks of the dough into bite-sized balls and coat them with granulated sugar.
  • Arrange the sugar-coated balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet with space between each.
  • Allow the Soft Christmas Peppermints to dry for several hours or overnight.

Notes

For a fun twist, try rolling in crushed candy canes instead of granulated sugar! Store in an airtight container at room temperature. They will last up to two weeks.
