Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure butter is softened but not melted.
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract Can substitute with lemon or orange extract for a citrus twist.

Decoration

  • 1 cup colored sugar For decorating; use different colors to match themes.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well combined.
  • Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture.
  • Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place them on ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Decorate each ball with colored sugar.

Baking

  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden.
  • Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze them wrapped tightly.
