  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated

For the Chicken

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional for thickening) Only if you want a thicker sauce.
  • 2 tablespoons water (optional for thickening) Mix with cornstarch.

For Garnish

  • Sesame seeds For garnish.
  • Green onions Chopped, for garnish.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger to make the teriyaki sauce.

Cooking

  • In a large pan, cook the chicken over medium-high heat until cooked through, about 6-7 minutes per side.
  • Pour the teriyaki sauce over the chicken and allow it to simmer for 5-10 minutes, basting the chicken in the sauce.
  • If desired, mix cornstarch with water and add to the sauce to thicken it.

Serving

  • Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.
  • Serve Teriyaki Chicken hot over a bed of fluffy rice.

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the chicken in the teriyaki sauce for at least 30 minutes before cooking. You can use chicken breasts or thighs based on your preference; thighs tend to be juicier. If you like a thicker sauce, don't skip the cornstarch and water step. For a vegetarian option, consider using tofu instead of chicken.
