  • 4 slices slices of rye bread Use fresh rye bread for best taste.
  • 8 ounces tender corned beef Thinly sliced.
  • 4 slices creamy Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup tangy sauerkraut Drained and squeezed of excess moisture.
  • 2 tablespoons butter Softened for easy spreading.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Butter one side of each slice of rye bread.
  • On the unbuttered side of two slices, layer corned beef, Swiss cheese, and sauerkraut.
  • Place the other slice of rye bread on top, buttered side up.

Cooking

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and grill the sandwich until golden brown and the cheese melts, about 3-4 minutes on each side.
  • Remove from skillet, slice in half, and serve warm.

Notes

Serve warm with pickles or potato chips. Pairs well with soda or beer. Store leftovers tightly wrapped in foil or plastic wrap in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. Use fresh ingredients for the best taste.
