Ingredients
  

For the Brownie Base

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter 1 stick, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

For the Cream Cheese Swirl

  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.

Making the Brownie Batter

  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of sugar, 2 eggs, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet mixture until just combined.

Making the Cream Cheese Layer

  • In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla until smooth.

Assembling and Baking

  • Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  • Pour the cream cheese mixture over the brownie batter and then add the rest of the brownie batter on top.
  • Use a knife to swirl the cream cheese into the brownie batter for a marbled effect.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature. Pairs well with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. For longer storage, keep in the refrigerator or freeze.
